We knew he was from Oklahoma, but we had no idea James Marsden could sing country like this.

When the actor and his Best of Me co-stars stopped by On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Wednesday (Oct. 8), they were joined by Lady Antebellum, who have a song on the soundtrack for the Nicholas Sparks adaptation. When Seacrest suggested that Marsden join Lady A for a song, he was initially reluctant — but once the first lines of Garth Brooks’ “Friends in Low Places” came out of his mouth, it was clear he was up for the challenge.

“Now I’m just pissed, because he’s better than me,” Lady Antebellum singer/guitarist Charles Kelley joked.

James Marsden is heading to HBO.

The X-Men star has landed a lead role in the dark drama pilot Westworld, inspired by Michael Crichton’s 1973 film, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The project is billed as a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin.

Marsden will play Teddy Flood, a mysterious new arrival to a small frontier town. He quickly proves both his charm — and his talent with a revolver. His pursuit of a local beauty launches him on a dark odyssey. Marsden recently starred in Anchorman 2, The Butler and 2 Guns, appeared on 30 Rock and Modern Family and next toplines the Nicholas Sparks big-screen adaptation Best of Me, D-Train and Business Trip. Jack Black and James Marsden are teaming up to star in The D-Train, a comedy being produced by Mike White’s RipCord Productions, Black’s Electric Dynamite and Ealing Studios.

The low-budget indie, which is gearing up to shoot in New Orleans later this month, is the directorial debut of Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel, the writers of the 2008 Jim Carrey comedy Yes Man and co-creators, with Jonah Hill, of the short-lived cartoon Allen Gregory.

D-Train centers on a Middle America high school reunion committee chairman (Black), still searching for high school acceptance, who has to do whatever it takes, including flying to Los Angeles to penetrate the world of celebrities, to get the most popular guy from high school — now a failed actor working in commercials (Marsden) — to show up to their 20-year reunion.

James Marsden is busy man. After starring in “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues,” the actor has almost a half dozen films set to come out in 2014.

But that doesn’t mean the father of three doesn’t make time for his kids.

“It’s one of the things I’m most proud of,” the “X-Men” star, 40, told ABC News of being a father. “Work is difficult because you’ve got to spend time away from home, but it’s always nice to come back and not have to do anything, just spend time with them.”
